Why I started Kerf

Kerf Tree Care & Consulting grew out of a passion for trees and a desire to provide thoughtful, professional tree care to the community I call home.

My approach is grounded in proper arboricultural practice, practical problem-solving, and a genuine respect for the trees we share our communities with. As an ISA Certified Arborist, I believe tree work should be based on sound knowledge and good judgment—not simply on what is quickest or most profitable.

Before starting Kerf, I spent six years working as a Firefighter/EMT here in our local area, including experience in wildland fire. That work gave me a deep appreciation for risk management, preparedness, and the relationship between healthy forests and the communities that surround them.

That perspective became especially relevant as mountain pine beetle activity began increasing throughout the Front Range. Seeing the effects on our local ponderosa pine forests—and the potential implications for both individual properties and the wider community—was a major part of what motivated me to start Kerf.

I believe good tree care is about finding practical ways for people and trees to coexist. Sometimes that means preserving a tree through proper care. Sometimes it means reducing fuels or addressing a hazard. And sometimes, removal is the responsible choice.

Whatever the situation, my goal is simple: provide honest recommendations, explain the reasoning behind them, and do the work properly.
